Those that set up, run, own or control a company in the UK must now verify their identity. This will apply to individuals who are:

  • a director
  • the equivalent of a director – this includes members, general partners and managing officers
  • a person with significant control
  • an Authorised Corporate Service Provider
  • someone who files for a company – for example a company secretary

Individuals can now voluntarily verify their identity and it will become mandatory from the Autumn. When you have successfully verified your identity, you’ll get a unique identifier – a Companies House personal code.

Verification can be done online at GOV.UK One Login free of charge and to do so you will need one of the following types of photo ID; biometric passport from any country, UK photo driving licence, UK biometric residence permit, UK biometric residence card or a UK Frontier Worker permit as well as access to a phone with a working camera.

You may also be able to verify your identity in person at a Post Office or you can use an Authorised Corporate Service Provider to do so on your behalf. Baker Tilly Mooney Moore is an ACSP.

We would urge those affected to voluntarily verify their identity at their earliest convenience. If you have any queries or to arrange for Baker Tilly Mooney Moore to carry this out on your behalf, please contact Rachel Mills E: rachelmills@bakertillymm.co.uk T: 028 9032 3466.
