As part of the Families First group, Mighty Women NI is an empowering community which works to promote and celebrate successful women across Northern Ireland. Having worked through the difficult days of Northern Ireland’s past, Ann has witnessed firsthand the powerful difference women can make, both locally and regionally.
One of the most poignant aspects of Ann’s presentation was her discussion of the historical barriers faced by women in the workplace. For many of our younger members of our staff, the notion of such obstacles may seem distant or unfamiliar. However, Ann’s insights served as a vivid reminder of the progress made and underscored the ongoing need for equality in every facet of professional life.
Central to Ann’s message was the imperative of women supporting women. She emphasised the transformative power of solidarity and collaboration in overcoming obstacles and achieving success. Her call to action resonated deeply with our audience, sparking meaningful conversations and reflections on how each of us can foster a more inclusive workplace.
Audit and Assurance Partner Joanne Small said: “In many ways, this firm was very much ahead of its time, our former Managing Partner Desmond Mooney treated everyone equally, there was no differentiation as to gender and he encouraged and supported Anne Fitzpatrick and me as we progressed through the firm. At that time there were very few female partners in accountancy, Desmond’s mindset was progressive, and we have all benefitted from this.”
Eimear Brown, Head of Audit, said: “Having Ann share her journey with us was a profound reminder of the strides women have made and continue to make in our society. Her work with Mighty Women NI underscores the power of community in fostering change. By championing and celebrating successful women across Northern Ireland, Ann is contributing to a brighter, more inclusive future for us all. I’m grateful for the opportunity to learn from her experiences and carry forward her message of empowerment within our firm and beyond.”
