At Baker Tilly Mooney Moore, we, just like thousands of other businesses across Northern Ireland, are getting used to working from home. We catch up with Darren Bowman, our Restructuring and Insolvency Director to find out what the last few weeks during the Covid-19 ‘lockdown’ have been like.

“My role usually sees me out and about, in factories and businesses across Northern Ireland, and shaking hands with dozens of people every week. Now, it’s all about Zoom! Throughout this whole experience I’ve realised just how much we rely on technology and people to be adaptable to change – and it’s been amazing to see what we can achieve when we all come together.

I spend a lot of time reassuring people and offering advice on business planning, so the biggest change has been not seeing people face to face. Saying that, I normally drive about 3,000 miles a month going out and meeting people – this month, it’s down to 80. So, quite accidentally, it’s taught me a whole new way of working that I hope to take with me when things get back to some sense of normality.

I’m saying the same thing to all our clients – just keep in touch, keep us up to date with your decisions as time goes on and try not to make any quick decisions. The next few weeks and months will be about waiting until you have all the information you need before altering your business too drastically. Businesses across the country, and the globe, are facing very similar challenges – paying rent and other overheads, so take this opportunity to communicate well and find out more about what’s right for you.

No matter what happens, we’re here to help – so get in touch.”
