Here at Baker Tilly Mooney Moore, we, just like thousands of other businesses across Northern Ireland, are getting used to working from home. Here, we catch up with Audit and Accounts Manager, Karen Kirk, about what the last few weeks during the Covid-19 ‘lockdown’ have been like.

“Working from home has certainly been an experience. I’ve two very young boys, so it’s been lovely getting to spend so much more time with my family, but it’s certainly had its challenges! My husband is a farmer, so they’ve enjoyed getting to go out to work with Dad, and we’ve manged to even fit some schooling in too.

The key for me, just like everyone at this stage really, is adapting to change and being flexible. There’s not really such a thing as a ‘working day’ right now – it’s been more about making things work when they can, but it goes to prove that it is doable.

I’ve been speaking to a lot of clients who are self-employed about what this all means for them and offering advice and guidance on next steps, especially around the support grant. For me, it’s just about being there for clients when and how they need us. Given that some of these businesses have become ‘essential services’ – that’s more important now than ever.”
