April 2024 sees the National Living Wage increase to £11.44. This increase was based on recommendations made to the Government by the Low Pay Commission and is the largest ever cash increase to the minimum wage. When, in previous years, the NLW applied to those aged 23 and older, this year the NLW will also apply to those aged 21 and older.

The new rates take effect from 1 April 2024 and are outlined below.

Apprentices in Northern Ireland are entitled to the apprentice rate if they are:
• Already in employment, or about to take up paid employment
• Be working a minimum of 21 hours per week on a permanent basis
• Meet all the entry requirements of the chosen apprenticeship.
After 12 months, the apprentice will receive the NMW for their age.
